“As a 74 year old, I have been looking for a boxing club. One that I could get someone to help me with the finer points of boxing being I had only had backyard boxing type of experience. When I first stepped inside the door, I was welcomed with all most open arms by all the staff and members of their family. I couldn't be happier.

“I've been with the gym since it's opened and currently participate in the amateur team. The Kennel Boxing Gym brings a lot to the table. The price’s is one of the best around, the family oriented atmosphere is great, the care from the coaches and staff is wonderful, and the members come in with a positive mindset. I have been taking my skills further, and being on the amateur really completes it. It's made me better as a boxer and a person. If you're looking for a boxing gym to; progress your skills, get in shape, build character, and to have fun The Kennel is definitely the place you want to invest in.”

"Since my childhood, I have always struggled with lung related problems. Last year, after a near-death experience with pneumonia, I was diagnosed by my doctors as having an uncommon lung disease known as Bronchiectasis. Initially, I struggled with accepting my condition, living my life as normal. However, after a few months of continually getting sick, I soon realized that I had to make a change in order to stop getting sick so frequently. Immediately, I decided to box as I knew the benefits of the intense training could dramatically improve my lung strength to fight my condition.

Just recently, I made the switch from my old boxing gym to the Kennel Boxing Gym. I specifically chose the Kennel for these reasons: Reputation in training World Champions, great East Bay location, & a "No-Ego-Allowed" environment. I especially appreciate the Kennel staff's genuine welcoming, accomodation, and concern with my condition. They understand that this is not just a fight for fitness, but a fight to learn discipline and valueable techniques to help me live longer than those with my condition are expected to live. On top of that, I have been surprised to train with others who have made the decision to box despite having pre-existing health conditions. It motivates me to try and become an amateur boxer that I would like to eventually become.

Whether pursuing the chance to fight professionally or just to simply get a great workout, I highly suggest joining the Kennel Boxing Gym."

San Leandro’s Glenn “Filipino Bomber” Donaire triumphantly returned to the ring Friday night with an eighth-round technical knockout of former strawweight world champion Alex “Nene” Sanchez of Puerto Rico in Kissimmee, Fla., for the WBC Latino interim flyweight title.

On the heels of a three-year hiatus from boxing, Donaire (18-4-1, 10 KOs) had some initial trouble with the shorter Sanchez (31-8-1, 21 KOs), but true to his nickname, the Filipino-American called on his power in the second round to floor his foe twice.

The first knockdown came via a right hand that dazed Sanchez and caused his gloves to touch the canvas.  However, the referee hesitated before giving Sanchez an eight-count, which prompted Donaire to land two more short right hands to ensure the knockdown ruling.
